DT - Finished Arm

Last week in DT was a very productive week. We final completed our arm which was great. However we tested our trebuchet and somehow, when the weights come down, it touches the bottom. This means the golf ball will lose energy when it is thrown and won't go very far. This is not good. So what we plan to do next week is to shorten the arm a little bit so it won't touch the ground and therefore, the ball will go further.

DT - Arm

This week has been really good. We have nearly finished the arm and the holder of the arm. With the holder, we had to buil something that would hold the arm that connects to the weights. What we did was create two wood pieces that are at the end of the base so when you pull the arm down to it, there is a hole that goes through the end of the arm and through the wood pieces. So far it worked. And with the weights, the weights for everyone is 4kg so we can put that at the end of the arm and that will pull the arm down to push the golf ball further. Therefore so far my trebuchet is going really well.

DT

This week we got the bar cut and done. We had to put a flush and a bolt on it so it would be stable. We also started our arm this week which was really good. So far it is so good. I wasn't here for. One of the lessons so I missed out on the first lesson we started building the arm, but my partner did a really good job. So far it's going really good.

DT

This week in DT was really productive. We were shown how to drill. A hole at the top of the posts at one time so we could put the bar on top it so the swinging arm could go on it. He also showed us how to glue our side posts onto the base which was really useful. What you had to do was get a electric screwdriver and drill a hole through the bottom piece so a large nail can be drilled in and onto the base so both can be connected. We did it four times on each side which took a while but it was still good and we had not problems with it. Next we started to build the metal bar that goes through the top hole of the posts.

DT - Side Posts

This week we finally got every triangle measured, cut and glued onto the side posts to make every piece stable and everything is not to wobble. Overall it took awhile to get everything right but we eventually got it all done. Therefore both our side posts are completely finished and next week we can start to nail and glue the posts onto the base. Therefore it has been a very tiring but productive week.

DT - Sides 2

We finally we able to connect every piece of the side walls together. The next part for next week is to make triangle pieces so this makes everything really stable and not be able to wobble so there is less friction when the golf ball is thrown. Therefore this week has been really productive.

DT - Sides

This week went really well. We got every single piece for our side walls cut and measured and ready to glue and nail together. It took a while to get everything measured and cut. This was because everything had to match each other and slot into each other otherwise the whole trebuchet would work. However we got it all done in the end. Now next week we just have to connect all of them together. Therefore, so far, so good.

DT - Base and Side Posts

This week has been extremely difficult. My partner Shae and I have finally finished the base which wasn't that hard cause all we had to do was glue and nail the pieces together. We then got taught how to make the posts. First however Mr Ward showed us his old trebuchet to show what they should be close to looking like.
This is what they all should look like all together. What we did this week was we measured and cut the middle post and the horizontal pieces lying on the bottom of the base. So far though, it has worked out.

DT

This week was really productive week. Mr Ward taught all of us how to make the base of the trebuchet. It was actually really fun to start making. Unfortunately we haven't finished it this week but next week we will finish it. So far we have measured the flat piece and cut it to size. We have also got the sides all ready to nail to flat piece so then it can really become a base. What we have to do in put PVA glue on the side pieces and glue them to the sides. But to clamp them together, we get nails and hammer them through both pieces so the glue can be tightly glued on without coming off at all. But overall, it has been really good and we are going well.

DT

Well I am back from my holidays. They were good, but I did do a bit of my written assignment. I researched more into the trebuchet facts about the trebuchet from a few hundred years ago near the Middle Ages. So far in DT I'm going really well. We will probably going to go into the workshop next week and the first thing we will probably build the base. Hopefully Mr Ward will teach us all how to make one. But so far so good.

DT

So far in DT, we have been going really well. We have come up with our designs and know what we will be doing in the workshop. But at the moment in class, we are still working on our history part of the task. We have to make a trebuchet timeline where we have to look up facts about the trebuchet from many, many years ago. So far we have had a good week.

Trebuchet

What is it:
A trebuchet is a siege engine used in the Middle Ages. It is sometimes called a counterweight trebuchet orcounterpoise trebuchet, to distinguish it from an earlier weapon called the traction trebuchet, which employed pulling men working the mechanism.

DT

Yesterday in Design and Technology, I continued to work on my car for the races next week. It worked BRILLIANTLY! I got every time I raced under 3s for my car. Some of my times were, 2.738, and the next two times I got these 'times' I raced Mr Ward and BEAT his car 'Glory'. It was so cool. His car was not yet beaten. And I made new records for my car with my top 2 times being, 2.642 and even '2.604'. It was amazing. I just need to fix up a few things to make it perfect and so it can go even faster, but overall I think I'm looking forward to try to win the 5 chocolates Mr Ward has on offer. This is what "Flash" looks like:

DT

For the past few days, I have continued to work on my vehicle. I have constructed my vehicle. I have wired all of my wires up, and the car is working. However the first time I wired it up, I had to switch some of the wires around because the wheels went the other way. It was really strange but I fixed it. But overall it was working really well. I put it on the track and the time I got was 3.14 seconds. It was really good for my first time. I still need to shorten the wires and librate it with wax so it will create less friction. But so far it working well. I also need to solder my wires as well. Therefore it is working really well. This is what it looks like so far.

Lunchtime DT

Today, I went into the workshop at lunchtime and worked on my car. All I needed to do was glue everything on. The next bit that I will glue on next time is the motor and batteries. Therefore it was a really productive lunch.

DT

Today in DT, I had a very productive and fun day. First up we went straight into the workshop and were continuing to work on our cars. On mine I was measuring the metal bars to fit my body and the front an back wheels. I then cut the metals to size using large bolt cutters as they are the best to use. Then I used the chisel and hammer to cut the white bars. I got this all done. I then made wooden plates and the bottom of the body for the front and back so the axels would not wobble or come off. This worked very well. I then tried gluing on the axels on. It went to plan perfectly. After this I just put the gears on. Mr Ward told the class to use the big gears as they work best. Therefore it was very simple from then on.

Velocity

What is Velocity?
Velocity is the rate of change of the position of an object, equivalent to a specification of its speed and direction of motion. For motion in one dimension, velocity can be defined as the slope of the position vs. time graph of an object. Speed describes only how fast an object is moving, whereas velocity gives both how fast and in what direction the object is moving. If a car is said to travel at 60 km/h, its speed has been specified. However, if the car is said to move at 60 km/h to the north, its velocity has now been specified.

DT

Today in DT, we went into the workshop and continued to test and form a car to race on the track. Mr Ward also showed us how to use bolt cutters and how this new cutter is better than the others used as this had bigger clamps which gave it an advantage. This also shows a mechanical advantage as well. Therefore I had a very productive lesson. For tomorrow's lesson I will trying to get the measurements right. And I also will go in to the workshop during lunch to work on our car.

DT

For the past few days in design and technology, we have been ideating and getting an idea of what our cars will look like. At the moment, mine is going well. I have a shape of what I would like to have. I want my car small and narrow. Through being narrow, there will be less friction from the air resistance. I also think that if I have a short car, this will create less weight so then the car can go faster as it doesn't have to pull so much weight on the motor. Therefore my car is coming along well. All I need to figure out is the exact measurements for my car.

DT

On Fridays lesson, it was a very interesting lesson. We talked about the steps taken to make a car. We also talked about some of the materials you could use such as cardboard, acrylic and this new material called core-flute. Another topic we talked about was circuits and how they operate. I took a photo of this. Here it is:

DT

Today in Design and Technology, Mr Ward explained to us what we would be doing this term for our assessment. It was really interesting. It is about making a remote controlled car. At the end, all of our cars will race to find the fastest car. The winner will get 5 chocolates. Yummy. But overall this task seems that it would be really fun to produce. Mr Ward also showed us the design brief. He also gave us our packet filled with all the pieces except 1 to make our car. Overall I think this task will be one of the best we have had. Although there is theory involved, the car should be a lot of fun. I look forward to it.

Today in Design and Technology I ideated what my torch would look like. After many discussions and searching, I finally came up with the idea that I could create a torch which was made on the hammer of Thor. It would be placed on the top of the hammer and built with in the hammer. Therefore I would have a handle, the hammer and a torch within that. This would mean that it is a weapon, a torch and a piece of fandom merchandise. This would be a great idea. Now I just need to measure how big the sides would be and the handle diameter. Photos from the Internet included:

DT

For the past few days in Design and Technology, I have been working on the tasks on Pro Desktop. Today I finally finished all the work on Pro Desktop. I have also printed them all out so I will be able to hand them into Mr Ward as soon as possible. I also now have thought of some ideas for my torch. Maybe the weapon on it will be a a spear, knife, or a gun. Next lesson I will continue with this.

DT (ProDestop)

Yesterday in design and technology, we had our first lesson on the introduction of ProDesktop. Mr Ward finally re-introduced us into the CAD (computer aided design) which was a really interesting lesson. He introduced us with an activity to help remember our skills from last year. We then had to make a cube with letters on it that were extruded beneath the surface of the cube on every side.

Pro Desktop Term 2

Today in DT, Mr Ward introduced us a little bit into Pro Desktop. It is a program that also is called CAD (Computer Aided Design). It was very interesting even though we did study this topic last year, I did enjoy it a lot. Therefore I am looking forward to my next lesson. Hopefully next lesson, we will actually be able to go on the computer and work on it and hopefully design something really cool.

Oral Presentaitions

Today, many people presented their oral presentation of their resort. Meyer partner Mackenzie and I did as well. I thought overall our presentation was good. However I particularly liked Shae and Rosy's presentation as their actual resort was very beautiful, and I loved their mountain and trees as it look very real. I also liked Bridget and Ally's presentation as they were very good at their oral and presented their resort very well.

DT (final day of resort)

Yesterday my partner and I had a very productive day. We made the huts for the resort and we also made the water tanks. It eventually looked really good. To make the water tanks, we used epoxy putty and shaped it into the shape we wanted. Then we cut out the shape of the huts and we then cut them all out and glued them together we then painted the walls of the huts brown so it would look like real huts made of bamboo. It actually looked real. Then we were finished with our design of our resort.

DT

On Monday in DT, my partner and I had a very productive day with our resort. We made the wind turbines that power the resort and we also made the bridge for the resort. To make the wind turbines we got a long thin stick of wood and measured it down to size of the pole the turbine would be and we made two of these. We then got a 'fan' and glue it onto the stick. Then we glued them both on either side of the pool at the top of the mountain. It eventually looked really good. To make the bridge, we used Popsicle sticks and then cut them down to size and made them into the walking platforms and then we used thin wooden sticks to make the for poles holding the bridge up. Then we cut them down to size and glued it together. Overall it looked very well.

DT

For the past few days, Mackenzie and I have been really productive with our resort. We finally received the grass we wanted from MacKenzie's family which was great. We then cut the grass to fit the size of land so it would look real. Once we cut it out which was actually really difficult, we then glued the grass on with the hot glue gun. It looked great after.

DT

For the past few days, my partner and have made a lot of progress on our resort. We painted the mountain greenish brown. This makes the mountain look more like a real mountain. When we were mixing though, it took a while to get the right colour to make it look like a real mountain. But in the end it looks really good. We then painted it on the mountain and we then decided to also paint it on the land just so if the grass missed a few bits, it would still look good. In the end it worked out really well.

DT

Today in DT, my partner and I had a very productive day. The grass arrived from my partner MacKenzie's house which is great so we can start gluing that on our resort which we can then put the huts on top of that. Today we only could shape it but then we decided not to go on and start to colour the mountain greeny brown. We later decided we should mix it with sand as that would make it very rough like mountains should be. As we went to get sand and came back, Shae (another student) had cut her finger with a razor. Therefore Mr Ward told us all to pack up. I helped her as she was a close friend of mine. I HOPE SHE IS OKAY :) But overall it was very productive.

DT

For this past week in Design and Technology, it has been very productive. On monday my partner and I made the waterfall. Although at first we thought it might be hard because the PVA glue doesn't dry fast so it might all just sink to the bottom of the river. However we came up with the idea that instaed of PVA glue and blue paint togethr to make the waterfall. We would use the Hot glue gun and blue paint which would then be poured on the hill and would stick easily. We practiced first on Mr Wards examples of mountains and it worked. Therefore we did it on ours and it turned out to be very successful. On wenesday we finished Task 2 off and now we can spend all our time on our resort.

DT (River)

Friday in Design and Technology was very productive. My partner and I were able to make a PVA and blur paint pretend water so that we could pour it into the river we cut out with the router. To make the pretend water for the river, we had to use PVA glue and pour only a little bit of blue paint into a container. The. We had to stir it with Popsicle sticks and makes it really runny and blue-ish. Then we poured it into the river. After that we left it to dry for the rest of the lesson and started to draw up our scaling for the huts that will eventually go onto the resort for people to stay in. Therefore this lesson was very productive. This is what the pretend water looked like:

DT (Mountain)

Yesterday in Design and Technology was very productive. My partner and I spent the whole lesson plastering with plaster Paris to make our mountain for our resort. It turned out very well. As we shaped it out last lesson with chicken wire and newspaper, therefore all we had to do was plaster it. Therefore we mixed plaster Paris and water which turned out to be very messy in the process but then made mountains for the resorts. This is what it looked like:

DF(Resort)

Yesterday in DF, my partner and I had a very productive day. The first thing we did was we used the router to cut out the river which we need to put PVA glue in later. It actually turned out very well. Although when we got to the edge of the board we left a line of wood at the end to keep it as a barrier for the glue and blue paint so it does not leak. Then when we finished routing, we then started to make the mountain and used chicken wire and newspaper to get the right shape of our mountain. During this, we made sure that there was a dip for a pool at the top of the mountain for the water that will create the waterfall. This is our progress so far:
